Why Design Infinity was created

If you’re reading this, then you probably either know me in some capacity, or my SEO efforts are working (yay! 😀). I’m stoked you’re here either way!

I’ve been working on something called Design Infinity for quite some time now! I wanted to take this chance to explain a little bit about why I created it.

Background

I started doing photography and design professionally back in 2018. Meaning that’s the time I started making money. Everyone has their own definition of when they should call themselves a “photographer” or “designer”, for me, it means making a living from it while dedicating at least 20 hours a week.

I’ve been passionate about nature my whole life so that’s how I got into photography. But slowly I started getting paid for food & product photography since at the time I was building a portfolio around it. All this happened while I was studying for my Master of Science in System Sciences at the University of Ottawa. I was able to start working with Doordash when they started out in Ottawa and Montreal! From there, my career started taking off. I built a good relationship with them that is still ongoing! I also got to work with SkiptheDishes and Uber Eats. Meanwhile, I actually got to work with Google on multiple projects in my hometown, Ottawa! In addition to these collaborations, I was doing work for multiple restaurants in my city, and numerous product brands from around the world.

I’ve never counted, but I’ve probably been to more than 400 restaurants, and have worked with tens of brands as well!

During this time, I always struggled with what method to choose when charging my clients. In certain cases, hourly-rate made more sense and in some, project-based was better.

Project-based VS Hourly-rate

Imagine you want to design and develop your brand-new website. You approach Design Infinity (good choice there!) and we give you a quote of $30,000 and a timeframe of 2 months.

Let’s say you hire a full-time employee to do a website design and development for you and you pay them an annual salary of $100,000. Let’s assume it takes them 2 years to finish the project. This is the route most businesses go. In fact, they also hire more than one person since there’s a lot that goes into it actually! (Think UI/UX design, branding, developing, backend, etc.) There are many more unanswered questions that come to mind here as well:

  1. How long does a website design and development take?
  2. How big is the project going to be?
  3. What happens after the project is complete? Do you still pay the same salary?

Now imagine instead of that, you start working with us at Design Infinity and we finish your project in only 2 months. The big question is, how much do think is fair we charge you?

Do we charge for the time we spend? For our high-quality? or for the fact that we’re finishing a 2-year project in 2 months? If we would’ve given you a quote of $50,000, it might’ve scared you away without you realizing that we’re saving you hundreds of thousands in the long run.

I think you get where this is going.

What I’m trying to say is that at the end of the day, you’re not paying for the number of hours, you’re paying for talent, experience, and vision. You’re not going to like the work of every experienced designer, developer, or photographer and THAT’S FINE! I’ve had multiple meetings with clients that just simply hated my work. And I’ve had clients that loved my work and worked with me without even a meeting. Not every client is a match for Design Infinity and I’ve accepted that before even Design Infinity was born.

Before Design Infinity

Back in 2019, I started charging project-based with no restrictions on deliverables and it changed my business. There were no more limits on the number of photos I would give to a client after a photo shoot, or on what I would design for them. I would give them full licenses for 10 years. Suddenly I stopped wasting time on that stuff and started getting more clients while every project was moving faster than ever.

Before Design Infinity, I started a monthly photography and design service for restaurants back in 2019 (before it was cool!). I tried to do it for an audience I was the most comfortable with. It was a great trial with many lessons through successes and failures. I used all of that when I created Design Infinity.

That service was much more limited compared to what Design Infinity is now. The number of designs and the number of photos per photoshoot were limited. I was again in the same spot as I started out, constantly convincing a client why my services were good for them. I hated that. So with Design Infinity, I decided to take all limitations away, charge more, focus on deliverables, and work with select clients.

The birth of Design Infinity

The self-employed life is always scary. You never know what might happen. You can plan and plan but at the end of the day, nothing is guaranteed. So just like every other solo entrepreneur, I was full of doubt.

I started working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week coming up with the concept of Design Infinity and the software stack I was going to use to develop everything. I was building websites for a while, but in 2021, I started using Webflow and it changed everything.

I was free to do whatever I wanted with a no-code platform fast, and at scale.

Before building Design Infinity, I wanted to make sure it had these main features:

  • No limits, no matter the plan whether it’s project-based or monthly-based
  • Make the homepage & website as simple as possible
  • Offer project-based and monthly-based work to fit every need
  • Let a client cancel or pause their subscription anytime (if on a monthly plan)

To my surprise, before the website was even finished, I managed to land Design Infinity’s first two clients through my previous connections with the brands I worked with! This proved that I was on the right path. For the first time in my life, I told a client to wait for a month! At that time, Design Infinity’s website wasn’t even finished.

Although there are multiple agencies that offer unlimited design plans, Design Infinity is different in one important aspect. We offer fast & high-quality product photography and work both monthly and project-based! Something that has never been done before. There is no other agency offering such a service. We’re basically all you will ever need for your whole online presence. Learn more about why we’re a great fit here.
